Jig The Movie!

So, hello there, it's me again! This post is about the new movie - Jig!

This movie sounds a-mazing. It's a documentary about Irish dancers from all over the world getting ready to go to the World Championship. This are big time dancers, like, they are really good and have been dancing for most of their life. I haven't seen it because - darn - they are pretty much only showing it in Europe, but they are coming to America. Only in select places though; LA. New York, Boston, Chicago, you know, the big places. Bummer, isn't it?

To see the Official Trailer: Official Jig Trailer
To visit the Official Website: Official Jig Website
To visit the Official American Website: Official American Jig Website

And here's another cool thing you can do: Go on Eventful, go to the official Jig page on there, and enter your zip code or a local zip code. By entering your zip code, they keep a tally of how many people voted in that zip code area, and which ever areas have the most votes, they'll show it there!
To visit eventful and vote: Eventful Jig Film - Vote!

Okey dokey, my work here is done! Don't forget to check out the sites, vote for your area, and watch the trailer. Comment if your as excited for Jig as I am! :)

My Idea of What Irish Dance Is

Well hello! Thanks for continuing to read this blog, I'm glad you weren't bored after the first post. :) I'm guessing most people reading this are either Irish dancers, or they know an Irish dancer, or something like that. But, I just have to explain what I think Irish dance is.

Pretty much, I'll some up what I think Irish dance is by answering the common statements or questions asked by people how... just don't really know what Irish dance is.

1. "Oh! You Riverdance. That's cool."
A: Well... Riverdance isn't type of Irish dance. It's a performing group of people who do Irish dance. Basically, the show Riverdance is performing Irish dance.

2. "Your dance competitions are like beauty pageants and are so overrated."
A: That's a bit insulting, but I can't say I haven't heard it before. It's like saying a soccer tournament is.. well I don't know what to compare that to. Honestly, yes, there is makeup, wigs, fake-tans, diamonds, expensive dresses, etc.  But we don't get judged on how dressed up we are. We get judged on how well we dance, which can take effort. In my opinion, it's fun to get dressy and fancy everyone once-in-a-while.

3. "I can do Irish dance! Watch!" *The person jumps and shuffle their feet randomly*
A: This is what bothers me most of all. I don't know, I guess it bothers me because it sounds like they are making fun of dance, which isn't nice at all, because I certainly don't make fun of playing soccer or football or something. (By the way, it's more than jumping and shuffling feet randomly) :)

4. "Dance is not a sport! Especially Irish dance!"
A: Of course Irish dance is a sport! We dance around and work so hard to get our dances write. It's ton of fun too! :) I heard this from another dancer; dance is sport, you can look it up in a dictionary and it will say this:
Sport: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
That's exactly what the dictionary says and I think Irish dance fits under that category.

Well, that's all I have to say! I hope you enjoyed this post, and I'm really sorry if I sounded obnoxious!

Until next time,
A Reel Irish Dancer

Welcome to this Blog!

Hi, I'm Rebecca, and I'm the owner and writer of A Reel Irish Dancer. Thanks for coming to my blog. This blog is for Irish dancers of all ages, levels, and countries. I'll post advice, lists of upcoming feisanna, my thoughts about Irish dance, pictures, and more! By the way, yes, I am an Irish dancer, of about 4 years. I'm only in novice, but I've gotten a great feel for the funky life of an Irish dancer. (and I love it!) I'm sorry, I haven't been to Worlds, or even Nationals, but I'll try my best to give "reel" advice! :) So, keep watching for more posts and updates!

Also, I have another blog, which is more about me, called Rebecca's Way. It has my posts full of reviews, thoughts, photography, and more! Find it at Rebecca's Way!

Will, there you have it, just a little basic introduction to this blog. I promise I will post more soon!
